Contest Ideas For A Giveaway
As social media continues to grow contest giveaways are becoming more and more popular to grow PR, build links, and generate traffic to your travel business. Only one problem persists–what kind of contest do I run? While holding a contest can be somewhat of a risk, typically contests that are marketed right spread like wildfire (tips for running a contest will come later–seems out of place I know, but I am in the mood to talk about idea tonight).
About half the battle is deciding what type of contest giveaway to hold. A few contest ideas that like and have personally run are listed below. In my post about how to run a contest I will mention prize ideas.
- Photo Contest – This contest has been done thousand of times, but if you are looking for an easy idea that most people can participate in the photo contest is the one to consider. The advent of the digital camera has helped make this possible. Every soccer mom is taking pictures of their kids and posting on Facebook. Holidays, birthdays, seasonal weather (like snow during the winter), and landscape (like mountains, waterfalls, and beaches) are great ideas to get customers involved.
- Video Contest – As you probably guessed by the name, when you a run a video contest you will automatically eliminate some of your customers from participating. Allowing videos from cell phones is one possible solution, but there should be a few quality guidelines. Running a video contest is a great way to grow your YouTube channel. A few ideas under the umbrella of a video contest include making a commercial about the vacation property they booked, participating in a local event, or enjoying a local attraction.
- Website Treasure Hunt (or Trivia) – This is another great contest where most people can participate. It works by posting questions on your Facebook fan page or blog asking questions about your company. Typically answers can be found on your website. The first to email a the answered questions is the winner (or course the questions must be answer right…ha).
- Contest Requesting Ideas – Lastly, hold a contest asking your customers or users for contest ideas. This is a very simple way to give customers an input. Plus, it is very simple to send an email or post a comment.
Did I miss any ideas? Have you participated in or ran other unique contest? Give us your thoughts and ideas.
