SEO Present: The Glory We All Seek?

I know I don’t stand alone on the feeling of SERP success. All would agree a certain amount of pride and excitement overflows from within when you see your company or client ranking well. Just to know that revenue streams and visitor interactions (as long as some early on optimization is done well) should start increasing releases some stress. I know it sounds corny, but at that moment you feel as though everyone (searching that niche of course) is going to  now know about YOUR COMPANY!

Deep down I feel everyone in this industry momentarily feels this way. The hours of optimization (whatever that might be in your business plan), conversion tracking, social marketing, and rank checking seem to pay off. It is so exciting to think everyone who doesn’t know you now knows you even though they have never seen you. Unfortunately, there are only so many “top spots,” and, lets face it, very few people go past page 2-3. So, a reasonable assumption might be more individuals don’t feel this way than do feel this way.

Ranking on the front page of Google has almost become an obsession for small and large business alike. Here is the thing–almost everyone is trying while so few are succeeding. Like stated in my SEO Past article, everyone has their own idea of achieving those ranking. Is it possible people are searching for the “glory” and missing out on the “journey?”

Listed below are current SEO (to me involved a broad umbrella) strategies that I think might work…

  1. Every Visitor Matters – Care about the visitors you currently are receiving. Even if it is only 25 a day make sure they keep coming back.
  2. Conversions – Knowing the patterns of your visitors can make a huge difference. What if you have some major flaw in your site? All the visitors in the world will not generate money/conversions/readers if there is some unknown problem.
  3. Content – I love following blogs and websites via RSS. However, nothing frustrates me more than when I sign up to receive updates and nothing changes for days. I can’t explain joy I feel when I look at my BlackBerry and new articles have been added on topics that I like reading about.  On a side note: I believe that the Internet was originally created for the sharing of information. Create some content and share it!
  4. Linkability – I do believe in link building. Yeah, all of it. Starting with directories moving through link bait and stopping just short of link exchanges (I believe a form of link exchanges still functions nicely. Needs to focus aroiund the customer), I think link build works great. However, building and creating a site that people enjoying linking might be the best way to build links. This “natural” links building strategy works great. It takes time and consideration.
  5. On Page Optimization – This strategy doesn’t have as much weight in the search engines as it used to have. However, done right on page optimization can still have an impact in conversions and rankings.
  6. Social Media – I have had great success acquiring active visitors through updates on Facebook and Twitter. I do mention these techniques with caution. They might be around for a long time or they might only last until the “next” social site is created.
