What Makes A Good Blogger?

Let me preface this post by stating that I do not think I have all the answers when it comes to creating the best blog. While I understand this is a general post about blogging tips, this list was compiled over time from other successful blogger and things they do on their blog. To help generate ideas for this post, I started jotting down reasons I follow other bloggers or subscribe to their feeds. For a few days I just kept asking myself, “Why do I follow this Blog?”

  1. Real Person – I love filling like I am actually connecting with someone (I know it is mostly digital, but still…). For some reason, I like reading the bloggers about page. It makes me feel like the individual behind the blog is a regular person. While I don’t dive right into my personal life, I do like to occasionally draw on personal situations and talk about my family.
  2. Simple and Easy – Readers should be able to communicate. More importantly, your readers should understand what you are saying. I don’t recommend talking down to your readers. I just think you should be thorough and explain your points.
  3. Controversial – Actually interesting and unique is probably better. You will gain readership quite quickly and you will receive a lot less negative remarks.
  4. Passion – You can always tell when a writer is passionate about a particular topic. Ideas should come easily and often–which leads to my next point.
  5. Regular -  This almost starting to sound like a fiber commercial. Yuck! Anyway, I like my fill on news and advice. I love looking at my RSS feeds and noticing new updates. Nothing is more frustrating than waiting for a blogger to update their blog. Updating frequency should vary among bloggers and themes, but I feel bloggers should update at least 4-5 times a week.
  6. Appealing To The Eye – Though it is not the most important thing, your blog should be eye catching and appealing.
  7. Perseverance – Good bloggers never give up. I bet most individuals who blog thought about giving up at one point or another. What we all must understand, is that good blogging is more like a marathon and less like sprint.
  8. Pictures – I had to add this because I might be the worst. Occasionally add some pictures as it helps break apart paragraphs and enables readers to scan through posts. Plus, pictures are cool.
  9. Grammar and Spelling – Man; I din’t wnat to put this thingy downe. It dont bouther most raeders, write! (this probably makes me look like a hypocrite because I am sure I have issues throughout my entire site…i just saying though)

I used to be one of those bloggers that gave up, until I started blogging everyday. Now it is a part of my life and something I make a living from. It’s great.
